ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 6th Day of September, 1935. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all Bills and other matters relating to mining which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Bodkm, Mr. Holyoake, Mr. Linklater, Mr. McSkimming, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Parry, Mr. Reid, Mr. Samuel, Mr. Webb, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Macmillan.) Tuesday, the 10th Day of September, 1935. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1934-35 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during 1 the said session." —(Right Hon. Mr. Forbes.) Wednesday, the 2nd Day of October, 1935. Ordered, " That the Mining Amendment Bill be referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee." —(Hon. Mr. Macmillan.) Tuesday, the Bth Day of October, 1935. Ordered, " That the Coal-mines Amendment Bill be referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee."— (Hon. Mr. Macmillan.) Coal-mines Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has carefully considered the same, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 10th October, 1935.
No. 13,—Petition of W. J. Adams, of Christchurch. Praying that he be granted a miner's pension. _ , ~ , I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.
No. 15.—Petition of N. L. Christensen, of Hokitika. Praying for a compassionate allowance equal to a miner's pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.
No. 16.—Petition of J. Memmott, of Waihi. Praying for a compassionate allowance equal to a miner's pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.
Mining Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the Mining Amendment Bill, has duly considered the same, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 18th October, 1935.
No. 2.—Petition of A. W. Moore, of Auckland. Praying that he be granted a miner's pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.
No. 62,—Petition of W. Penno, of Thames. Praying that he be granted a miner's pension or compassionate allowance in lieu thereof. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.
No. 184,—Petition of W. J. Stafford, of Auckland. Praying that he be granted a miner's pension or a compassionate allowance in lieu thereof. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should he referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 18th October, 1935.

No. 195.—Petition of T. Moriarty, of Wellington. Praying for compensation for alleged transfer of title to land and subsequent destruction of the said land by the dredging-operations of a gold-mining company. I am directed to report that, in view of the fact that the grant of £150 in settlement of the prayer of the petition in respect of property damaged in 1898 and paid to the petitioner by the Government on 26th September, 1924, was expressed to be in full settlement of all claims, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 23rd October, 1935. Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee unanimously passed the following resolution: " That this Committee desires to record its appreciation of the able and courteous manner in which the Chairman, Mr. Bodkin, has conducted the business of the Committee during the session, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." P. C. Webb, a Member of the Committee. 25th October, 1935.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee passed the following resolution: " That this Committee desires to record its appreciation of the services of the Clerk, Mr. Anderson, during the session, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." 25th October, 1935.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that during the session the Goldfields and Mines Committee, consisting of ten members, held five meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of seven members. The Mining Amendment Bill, on which evidence was heard, the Coal-mines Amendment Bill, and seven petitions were referred to the Committee; all were duly considered and reported to the House. W. A. Bodkin, Chairman. 25th October, 1935.
