GRADING FRUIT FOR MARKET

A resident of Invercargill who has had an opportunity of seeing how fruit is prepared in Nelson for the Wellington market, thinks that growers should give more attention to the grading of their supplies, especially in the case of apples. In proof of the good effects that follow attention to details he sends the following extract from a letter by a Wellington firm of auctioneers to a Nelson grower :—“ We must congratulate you on the fine class of fruit sent over. It was indeed a great pleasure to handle the russets, and we are glad to state that the firsts met with keen competition. Undoubtedly great benefit follows in the steps of careful grading such as that adopted by you.” As a rule the fruit sent to Wellington by the grower in question commands top price.
