VOLCANO ERUPTS
SOME TOWNS EVACUATED (Rec. 12.20 p.m.) MANAGUA (Nicaragua), Nov. 22. Thousands of people fled in panic to-day from the city of Leon and other communities threatened by the increasingly violent eruption of the Cerro Negro volcano. Jets of flame hundreds of feet high shot from the crater, lighting the leaden skies. A thick pall of ashes and volcanic sand covered the surrounding area. Loud underground rumblings added to the terror of the population. The towns of Malpaisillo, Telica and Larreynaga are also being evacuated.
