TWO SHIPS MINED AND SUNK
INCIDENTS OFF WOOSUNG (Rec. 9.30) HONGKONG, June 20. Two foreign ships were yesterday mined and sunk on the Yangtse River near Shanghai, according to reports reaching Hong Kong. Hong Kong agents of the Chinese motor-ship Valve were informed that the ship was mined off Woosung when about to enter the Whangpoo River for Shanghai. This report stated that one member of the crew was killed, but other reports stated that 15 persons lost their lives. The Greek ship Santos is also reported to have been mined about, the same place. Although flying the Panamanian flag, the Valve was Chineseowned, and manned by about 40 Chinese officers and men.
