SPECIALISTS CONFER AT ROTORUA

(P.A.) ROTORUA, Dec, 2. A conference convened by the New Zealand branch of the Empire Rheumatism Council is being held in Rotorua with about 50 specialists attending from all parts of the Dominion. At the' opening’ sesssion, a message of good will was received from the Gov-ernor-General (Sir ' Bernard Freyberg). 'The aim of the promoters is to establish clinics at various general hospitals to classify patients and to transfer those who would benefit by treatment to Rotorua. After discharge they would be referred back to their clinics for observation and further treatment. Dr. Rowatt Brown (Auckland) gave his impressions of the international congress on rheumatic diseases held in the United States early this year. Dr ,J. Kennedy Eliott (Wellington) and Dr. Murray Falconer (Dunedin) presented papers on: “The painful shoulder.” Dr. F. B. Edmundson (Auckland) spoke on the treatment of lion-articular rheumatism and Dr. 11. R Donald (Christchurch) on the endocrine aspects Of arthritis. This morning clinical demonstrations were held and this afternoon a symposium on ankylosing spondylitis was presented by Dr. Morvyn Williams, Mr E. Gillies, and Dr. Eugene Lynch.
