LICENSING POLL
, N.Z. ALLIANCE VIEW (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. Commenting oil the result * of tho licensing poll to-day, the general superintendent of the, New Zealand Alliance (Mr H. W. Milner) said that swings of public opinion came periodically and the alliance beieved that the day of Prohibition would yet come in New Zealand. . '
The 40,000 votes' increase for Continuance ' was nothing compared with the sweeping increase'of 140,665 votes that occurred, in 1935 on the last change of Government. "Oil present figures prohibition is 20,000 votes short of the 1946 poll; but that will probably be made up and the percentage will probably remain about the same as at the last p 011—25.87” said Mr Milner. He added that the drop of 80,000 votes on the State purchase issue was probably the natural effect of a swing of public opinion away from the general principle of nationalisation.
