REQUEST “SNUBBED”

PEERESSES ANNOYED I ' - (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 2. British peeresses in their own right are angry with the Prime Minister, Mr Attlee, for “snubbing” a request to receive a deputation to discuss their admission to the House of Lords on equal terms with men. Twenty-four women are peeresses in their own right, distinct from hundreds who have titles through marriage to hereditary peers. National organisations representing millions of women support the campaign, launched in 1947, on the right of women to vote in the House of Lords. .

When Mr Attlee was asked to receive a deputation on the matter, he replied that no useful purpose would be served by receiving it.
