SHIP ROLLS OVER

STUBBORN FIRE IN HOLD ‘ \ (Rec. 10.30.) NEW YORK, Dec. 2. With a stubborn fire raging in its hold, the Matson freighter Hawaiian Rancher (5353 tons) rolled over at Alemeda, California, to-day and crashed into a dock. No casualties were reported. Firemen who were fighting the blaze through a cargo of construction cardboard had started to fill the hold with water to smother the flames, when she rolled over.

The fire in the Hawaiian Rancher was brought under control after a spectacular seven hours’ battle. The freighter’s list ivas corrected. She was damaged when she rolled against the pier, as well as having one hold and other parts badly burned.
