WARNING ISSUED

Costs May be Imposed VALUATION COURT HEARINGS A warning that costs might have to be imposed in cases where counsel were not ready to proceed was issued by the chairman, Mr B. T. Robertson, at a sitting of the Land Valuation Court at Ashburton yesterday afternoon.

“Cases are set down at the request of counsel,” he stated, “ana then we find tney are not ready to proceed. We bring the Crown valuers here from Christchurch or Timaru, and then find that their visits are pureiy wasted time. It is not a fair deal, and, in future, we will have to consider imposing costs. Ashburton has been good in the past, but to-day we have nad two instances of cases being deferred because parties were not ready to proceed.” t Otner members of the court were Messrs C. B. Idle and W. R. E. BrooKer, while lvir N. 8. liawson represented the Crown. Applications tor consent to sales were considered as follows :

Sale of house in Winter’s. Road, Asnburton, from Norman Lamont, formerly of Ashburton, to Lancelot Geoitrey Golden Harper, of Ashburton, dentist. The area of the property is 1 rood 9.3 perches. The proposed purchase price was £2900, and the building was completed only about three months previously for £2060. with additions totalling £llO. Mr B. W. Wilson, for the Crown, valued the property at £2830, while Mr W. H. Amos, for the purchser, valued it at £2900. The sale was approved at the price of £2900. Sale of five-roomed house at Tinwald from Frank and Ralph Crum, as builders, to James Maxwell Proctor, of Tinwald. The price asked was £1450. The dwelling was moved to its present site from Windermere at an allowed cost of £1351. For the Crown, the cost was stated as £1195. The sale was approved at £1351. Mr Y. W. Russell appeared for both parties.

Sale of a joinery factory in the Triangle from William John Brown to William James Miller, both of Ashburton. The area is 18.9 perches, and the price asked was £llsO. On the 1936 valuation roll the property was valued at 715. For the Crown, Mr B. C. Wilson valued it at £IO4O, while for the purchaser the value was placed at £1258. Mr R. Kennedy appeared for both parties. The application was adjourned.
