THE WEATHER
FROST OF 8.5 DEGREES Conditions in Ashburton to-day were pleasant, with the exception of a cold north-easterly breeze, which took the warmth out of the sun. Recordings taken at 9 o’clock this morning at the Domain were: —Maximum temperature 58.5 degrees, minimum temperature 31.6 degrees, earth temperature 40.1 degrees, barometric reading 29.69 inches. A frost of 5.5 degrees was registered this morning, while the sun shone for 8.8 hours yesterday.
SOUTH-WEST CHANGE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:
General situation: A depression is passing to the south of New Zealand.. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate northerly winds, turning south-westerly early to-morrow; weather fair at first but becoming cold and showery to-morrow. Further outlook: Temporarily fair. SUN AND MOON Sun rose to-day, 7.S a.m.; sets, 5.59 p.m. Sun rises to morrow,. 7.7 a.m.; sets, G p.m. First Quarter, August 31, 7.16 a.m. Full Moon, September 7, 9.59 p.m. Last Quarter, September 10, 2.29 a.m. New Moon, September 23, 0.21 a.m.
