VEGETABLE SUPPLY
HOSPITAL DECIDES POLICY -Taking the view that the move would not be economic, the Ashburton Hospital Board to-day decided not to proceed with a proposal to acquire a farmlet or farm for the growing of vegetables. A very comprehensive report on the proposal was .submitted by the working foreman f(Mr R. F. Smith), but members, after discussion in committee, agreed that it was uneconomic and that the policy would be to utilize the existing area (64 acres) for the growing of green vegetables, early potatoes and other early root crops, the main crops of the roots to be purchased in bulk. The foreman was warmly commended on his report, and it was further decided to ask him 1o confer with members regarding the best means of implementing the policy adopted above. Bulk Store Proposal Advice was received by the board, from the Building Controller, that the previous request for a bulk store building permit would have to he deferred until improvement in the materials situation had taken, place. The chairman (Mr C. A. Campion) pointed out that the hoard’s application had already been approved by the Health Department. It was decided to renew the application to the Building Controller in three months’ lime.
