LOSS BY FIRE

Bacon Factory Gutted

DAMAGE SEVERAL THOUSAND POUNDS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. When Bromley’s bacon factory, Upper Riccarton, was gutted by fire early this morning, damage to the extent of several thousand pounds was done to the building, and the contents. The contents were insured for £IBOO, the policy being held by the Prudential Assurance Company, while the insurance on the building was held by the Queensland Office for £750. The building was owned by Mr W. J. Bowman, while the stock and contents belonged to Messrs H. K., Bromley and T. P. Bromley, proprietors of Bromley’s Butchery, Riccarton Road. Mr T. Bromley estimated this morning that valuable new equipment, which was uninsured, had also been destroyed. ■ The factory comprised a singlestorey brick building. The fire was first seen about one o’clock this morning by a neighbour.
