MAN DROWNED

DINGHY OVERTURNS IN SURF (P.A.) iNEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 19. One of two brothers who were occupant® of a dinghy that overturned in the surf off Ohawe beach, near Hawera yesterday, was drowned. He -was Bertram John Goodman, aged 35, of Ohawe, a gasworks employee. He was exhausted when picked up on a surf ski, and was dead when brought to the chore. /YOUNG MAN’S DEATH DROWNED WHILE BATHING AT . TE PUKE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. A man war, drowned while bathing in the Kaituna river at Te Puke on Saturday. He was Tai Moana O’Callaglian, aged 21. O’Callaghau had been haymaking and late in the afternoon he went with some friends for a swim in the river He was not a strong -swimmer and was swept away. His body was recovered this afternoon.

CHILD KILLED CRUSHED BY HEAVY DRUM (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 19. Crushed by a 44-gallon drum of tar and water, a idiild was killed at Erua on Saturday. He was Thomas. Patrick Kelly, aged four, a son of Mr C. Kelly, manager of the Trunk Sawmilling Company, Limited. The drum was standing on the roau side and the child apparently pulled at it. The bottom of the drum was corroded and it gave way, falling on his head and killing him instantly.
