WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

FINAL MEETING OF YEAR At the final meeting of the year of the Hampstead Women’s Institute the motto was “Peace on earth, good w to men.” The meeting opened with the singing of “ Comrades anc Friends.” The president, Mrs C. Hawkey extended a warm welcome to members and friends. The roll-call, “Soap ior Britain” was well responded to. it was decided to hold the annual picnic in the Domain on January 20. Members were reminded that a parcel of gifts is to be sent to the group’s adopted child, “Pearl.” A choir of voices, under the leadership of Mrs Constable, sang several part-songs. Carol community singing was also held. Mrs Melrose contributed a vocal solo. Miss R. Chappel was the accompanist. The president thanked all who had helped to make the afternoon a success, and extended the compliments of the season to all. A very enjoyable afternoon tea was served, with ice-cream and sweets for the children. & Competitions resulted: Bloom, Mesdames J. Smith 1, Bowers and M. Thompson 2, M. Baker and Brownsdon 3; seasonal flowers, Mesdames J. Hunt 1, J. Smith and W. Thompson 2, Sinclair and Brownsdon 3; truss, Mesdames Smith and Hunt 1, S. Wilson and Brownsdon 2, J. GlOnie 3; lettuce, Mesdames Glenie 1, Solway 2: pikelets. Mesdames Glenis 1, Hawkey 2, Miller 3; Christmas novelty, Mesdames Taylor 1, Constable and Solway L 2, Morton 3. t
