NARROW ESCAPES
OCCUPANTS OF BURNED HOUSE (P.A.) MASTERTON, July 27. '• Ten adults who were sleeping in a seven-roomed house at Masterton after gathering for a wedding anniversary escaped from the house when it caught fire early this morning. The fire which began at 5.13 a.m., practically gutted the house. The fire started in the breakfast room, and it was confined there for some time, but burst out with startling speed. The occupants had narrow escapes from being overcome oy the smoke and made hurried exits out of the windows. > Mrs L. G. Fenwick, the wif of a tenant of part of the house, was admitted to the Masterton Hospl'al with a severe cut to an arm. She was injured when breaking a pane of glass in the front door to try to let out another occupant. The house was owned by Mr J. O’Donald and was insured for £'9oo. The contents were not insured, hut the part-tenant, Fenwick, has his effects insured.
