RAILWAY BALL
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The first Railway Ball in Ashburton since 1938 was held in the Radiant Hall last night, and proved an outstanding success. About 400 persons were present, including visitors from Christchurch, Timaru and Rakaia. The railway road services were also well represented. The hall was beautifully decorated with red, green and yellow streamers, and automatic flashlight signals flashmg off and on provided a novel interest. ' The music by Colin Campbell’s Band (Christchurch) was most popular, and extras by Miss M. Willers and Messrs C. Hanson, C. and R. Sparrow and Cooper were a special feature. Novelty dances were Avon by Mrs G. Rollinson and Mr Burdon. and Mrs A. Knight (Christchurch) and Mr John Knox. A prize for the couple most consistently on the floor Avas Avon by Mr and Mrs Casey. Masters of ceremonies Avere Messrs C. Wellman and C. Bradley. An appetising buffet savoury supper Avas served.
