DEMOLITION HELD UP.

POST OFFICE CLOCK TOWER. Demolition woi’k on the Ashburton Post. Office clock tower has been held up by the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) until ::n independent report on its stability is obtained. This was announced by the Minister yesterday to Mr R. G. Gerard, M.P., who took the matter up with him when the Town Clerk (Mr R. C. Major) received a. letter from the acting-Dis-trict Works Engineer (Mr F. D. Grant) stating that demolition would probably begin in a few days.
