SUPPLY OF ORANGES.
THE PLUNKET SOCIETY'S WORK.
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
After the middle of July, the Plunket Society will cease to distribute oranges and chits for eggs. This was decided at a meeting of the Dominion council of the society, held in Christchurch yesterday. Consideration was given to a request made by the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay), asking for the society’s co-operation in the rationing of oranges and eggs. While appreciating the need for safeguarding available supplies for young children and expectant mothers by the adoption of the simplest and most practicable system of rationing, members would ■suffer if they continued their part in the scheme. They expressed the hope that the Internal Marketing Division and Department of Supply could organise an alternative scheme before the society relinquished the work. The council acknowledged the steps already taken by the Department of Supply to make available babies’ requirements. It was contended that still more could be done to give priority to the manufacture' in the Dominion of 'wool, cot blankets, and flannel. i
