THE WELCOME CLUB.

IMPROVEMENTS CARRIED OUT. Since word lias been received from the Government that the premises of the Ashburton Welcome Club will not be required for other purposes, the (■officials have been, able to carry on with arrangements for improveriients which were deferred for some time when tlia- fate of the club was being decided. To provide extra, accommodation] the light well has been filled in, the work being done by a party of four soldiers who have teen busy on the premises since Tuesday. A well-planned coat rack has been put up, and with the extension of the dance floor and other alterations to be completed by to-mor-row visitors will notice a. great improvement. Favourable comments, on the club have been received from r many quarters, and the friendly atmosphere in which 1 it is run has been commented on to a. large extent. The popularity of the Welcome Club is shown by the growing attendances, and'thoso responsible for catering, cleaning and entertaining are to be congratulated on their work. v

It is -stated that gifts of furniture, books, games and magazines are always welcome. Advice has been received by the manager of the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Go-opera-tive Association (Mr E. W. M. Cole) that the ground floor and basement of the old premises are required. l for other purposes. The top floor will continue to 1 be let to the Welcome Club free of charge for the duration.
