GERMANS IN BALKANS.
MOUNT OLYMPUS FORTIFIED. / ' YUGOSLAV GUERILLAS ACTIVE (United Press Association —Copyright.) ' 1 LONDON, August 1. It is believed that Marshal List, formerly German commander in, the Balkans, has been withdrawn from the Russian front. He has ’been seen in Athens and Sofia, and it is believed that he has been sent to appraise the situation in the Balkans and estimate whether there is a danger of a British landing in Greece. It is significant to see that the Ger- ' mans are fortifying Mount Olympus. The Germans are seriously worried over the Balkans situation and they doubt the ability of their satellites to hold down the conquered countries. Yugoslavia, Greece, and even Bulgaria, are seething with sabotage activities. Yugoslavian mountain guerilla forces have forced the Germans to send back 25,000 men, to maintain order. A strict curfew has ibeen imposed in Belgrade. The Germans have given up sounding the alarm for Royal Air Force attacks on Greece .because the Greeks make the raids an occasion for popular rejoicing..
