SOVIET AIR FORCE ACTIVE. WIDESPREAD TARGETS BOMBED. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, Aug. 4! . A Soviet communique issued early this morning states: “In the course of Sunday our troops engaged the enemy in the direction of Smolensk, Kerpsten Belotserkov and in other sectors of the front. No essential changes have taken place in the disposition cf our troops. Our Air Force, in co-operation with the land forces, attacked enemy mechanised and motorised units, infantry and artillery. In aerial combat with the enemy our air force shot down bl German planes, with, the loss of 19 Sbviet planes. “In the course of an attack on Mas-
cwv, carried out by German planes during the night following August 2, , two. German planes were brought clown without .loss to ojir forces. An enemy submarine has been, sunk in the Baltic Sea. It is now ascertained that during a raid on Sonstanza, carried out by Soviet planes on August 2, bombs hit a. floating dock, an. enemy destroyer and enemy shipping in the harbour.’ ! —British Official Wireless.
