REMOUNTS FOR THE ARMY.
COMMITTEE IN MAYFIELD. The appeal for horses for the Army was placed before an. enthusiastic meeting at Mayfijsld last evening by Major Gordon Brown, who is conducting the appeal in Ashburton County on behalf of the military authorities, and a good committee was set up to carry oni the campaign in that area. The committee comprises Messrs J. Murdoch (chairman), A. H. Guiney (secretary), J. Blair, J. McCormick, L. P. Chapman, G. H. Lamb, L. R. Harrison, J. Moore, A. A. Fleming, D>. Johnston, L. King, R. J. Mulligan, with Captain P. M. Harper and Sergeant A. R. McLay representing B Squadron of the C.Y.O. The committee will conduct the appeal in the district from the Rangitata River to Mount Somers and from Lismore to the back country stations, and its list of offers of horses will bo completed by December 7. t Major Brown will ad'diless a meeting at Methven next week with tho object of forming a committee there. This will be the last committee to be set up in Ashburton district.
