SMALL FARMS BILL.
REPLIES TO REPRESENTATIONS.
MESSAGES TO FARMERS’ UNION. Replies have been received by the Mid-Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union from the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) and Mr T l . D. Burnett, .M.P., to the telegram which the Executive sent from its monthly meeting last Friday, as follows: “The members of the Mid-Canter-bury Executive of the Farmers’ Union object to the proposed Small Farms Amendment Bill as at present drafted. We fool that the 'Government has the power necessary in. the Lands for Settlements Act, 1925, ' and its amendments, to cover the position.” Tho Prime Minister replied : “Have received your telegram and l have noted for consideration the representations submitted on behalf of your Union concerning the Small Farms Act Amendment Bill.”
Mr T. D. Burnett replied to the secretary of the Executive (Mr W. H. Amos) as follows: —‘“Wire-received. If Bill persisted in will destroy farmers’ confidence in their own industry in future and ultimately will have detrimental effect on maximum primary production.”
