minor ASSOCIATION match. ’WIN for. ASHBURTON. Ashburton defeated South Canter-, bury by 42 runs on the first innings in a cricket match played on the Ashburton Domain Oval y'esterday in the Minor Association’s trophy competition. Before accurate Timaru bowling, Ashburton fortunes fluctuated in their first strike, hut the tail wagged sufficiently to allow the side to put up the moderate total of 143. South Canterbury did not fare so well, and were all out for 101. < L. Butterfield showed himself to be a dangerous batsman, contributing 42 runs. W. McDonald also played solidly for 22. Ashburton collapsed in its second innings, and at the close of play had lost eight wickets for 35 runs. H. E. Cook scored 20 runs. R. Wilson and L.
