TWO CANDIDATES.

THE JOHN BELL SCHOLARSHIPS.

Two entries have been received for John Bell. Memorial Scholarships, tenable at the Ashburton High School for two years. The value of the scholarship is £lO a year. To be eligible candidates must he sons of small working farmers, farm -labourers, shepherds, artisons, or other working men residing in the Ashburton County. A candidate must be under 14 years of age, on December 31 in the year in which he sits for the examination.

The examination, which’'will take place early in December, will he in English, arithmetic and elementary agriculture. A candidate must be prepared to take an agricultural course ct the High School.

The final selection of candidates for scholarships is made by a committee of prominent persons. At least two scholarships are granted annually.
