FIRST PARADE.
TO BE HELD NEXT THURSDAY. 81 -MEMBERS IN! HOME GUARD. The first parade of the Ashburton section of the Home Guard will be held at the Ashburton Drill Hall at- 7.30 o’clock next Thursday evening. This decision has been made by the chairman of the Home Guard Committee (Dr. J. Conner, Mayor of Ashburton), and the.'Area Commander (Captain E. A. Cockroft). Up to, this morning SI members had been enrolled in the Guard, and it is believed, that there will be several additions during the day, while half a dozen enrolment forms were issued this morning. With a meeting at Itakaia this (evening and another at Mayfield next week tbe work' of establishing the Home Guard in the Ashburton County will be practically completed. A meeting was held at Lagmlior last evening when 13 residents were enrolled. The Chairman, of the County Council (Mr S. P. Taylor), the Area Comrn a inter (Captain E. A. Cockroft) and the County Clerk (Mr G. Kelly) addressed the gathering. It was unanimously decided to set up a committee comprising the following: Messrs J. M. Arnold (convener), K. Campbell, J. Feclmey, J. Crawford, J. Lowery, !H. O. J. Dillon, C. G. C. Harper, J. Langdon, S. Crosson, W. McCormick, W. Manson. A vote of thanks was passed to the speakers.
