MANY PARCELS.
PREPARED BY WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. ACTIVITIES! IN ASHBURTON. The Ashburton Women’s Institute nijat yesterday afternoon-, the president (Mrs" G. M. Breeze) presiding over a good attendance. The president announced that seven soldiers’ parcels had been, sent, 167 knitted articles had been forwarded to the Reel Cross Society and 60- parcels handed in to the Lady Galway Guild. Mrs Amos presented Mrs Verrall with an Institute spoon in recognition of her recent marriage. The Play Reading Circle gave an item, and Mrs Coates gave a reading from “Pioneer Tales,” the book of the early days in Ashburton. Mesdames J. B. Cullen and E. G. Crhighead each gave a solo. Competitions resulted: Article madefrom old woollen material, Miss L. Watt 1, Mrs Richairdson 2: pikelets, Mrs Hines 1, Mrs Leash 2 meringues, Mrs Sodcols 1, Mrs Hines 2: bloom. Mrs Leask 1 and 2; truss, Mrs Sedcole- 1 and 2.
The hostesses were. Mesdames Curd, Clark, Cdckroft, Frew, Hockings an A Baker.
