PATRIOTIC GUILD.
ASHBURTON COMMITTEE FORMED DEPOT TO BE ESTABLISHED. 5' ' * As a result of the enthusiastic support Ashburton people have given the appeal of the Lady Galway Guild for clothing for refugees it has been found necessary to set up a committee to examine the clothing, carry out minor repairs and pack it for shipment. At a meeting held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon presided over by the Mayoress (Airs G. I. Miller) this committee was set up. Those appointed were;—Alesdames G. I, Miller (chairman), J. L. Bennett, G. Aitkenhead, A. Colder, G. Aloore, A. N. Grigg, J. T. Thomas, F. AY. Seldon, H. Flatman and \V. H. Robinson.
It was decided to establish in about a week a depot in the Ashburton Borough Council library building where three members will be in attendance on five days a week.
It was pointed out that donations of wool, cotton and other materials were preferable to money, which could not he held.
Ail appeal was made for the loan of sewing machines, electric irons and other equipment. Mrs 1 Miller said this morning that a promise of an electric iron had already been received.
