BARING SQUARE.

PRELIMINARY WORK COMMENCED.

A NEW LAY-OUT SHORTLY. Preliminary work in connection with the proposed alterations to Baring Square East was commenced to-day under the supervision of the Curator of the Ashburton Domain (Mr D. H. Leigh). The removal of the oak trees is the first job. There was some delay* this morning because of a difficulty with the strainer. The butts on the concrete edging around the reserve will be removed during the next few days. Once the ground is cleared, and; the oaks removed the area will be surveyed. •

Mr Leigh said this morning that with favourable weather Baring Square, should be laid out in its new form in bout a month’s time.
