FINAL GALA CUP MATCHES. There was some bright tennis in two final matches of the A grade Gala Cup championships of the Mid-Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Association, which were played on the Ashburton Club’s courts on Saturday afternoon. Tho matches resulted as follow: Men’s doubles—Semi-final: E. P. Bryant and W. T. Watkins beat H. A. Barnett and R. Horrill 4-6. 6-4, 6-3. Final: J. Russell and A. Stanley bent Bryant and Watkins 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Mixed doubles—Final: H. A. Barnett and Miss M. Watson boat J. Russell and Mrs F. W. Dickens, 6-2, 6-2.' RUAPUNA DEFEATS TINWALD. Ruapuna easily defeated Tinwald in a tennis match at Ruapuna on Saturday by 13 sets to 3. Results were as 'follow (Tinwald names being given first):— Men’s singles C. McCandlish lost to R. C. Bean 4-7, N. Boyd lost to G. King 1-7, J O’Shea lost to W. McLny 1-7, L. Porter lost to F. C. Tasker 5-7. Women’s singles—-Mrs M. Porter lost to Mrs J. Cairns 2-7, Mrs L. O’Shea lost to Mrs G. Sewell 3-7, Miss M. Henderson lost to Mrs Moore 4-7, Miss J. Campbell lost to Miss L. King 4-7. Men’s doubles—McCandlish and Boyd
lost to Bean and King 3-7, O’Shea and Porter, lost to McLay and Tasker 5-7.
Women’s Doubles—Mesdames Porter and O’Shea lost to Mesdames Cairns and Sewell 6-7, Misses Henderson and Campbell beat Mrs Moore and* Miss King 7-6. Combined doubles—Mrs Porter and McCandlish beat Mrs Cairns and Bean 7-4, Mrs O’Shea and Boyd lost to Mrs Sewell and King 4-7, Miss Henderson and O’Shea lost to Mrs Moore and McLay 1-7, Miss Campbell and Porter heat Miss King and. Tasker 7-6.
