OBITUARY.
THE DUKE OF HAMILTON.' (United Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, March 16. The death has occurred of the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, the premier peer of Scotland. Ho will be succeeded by Squadron Leader the Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale, who is well known as a boxer.
Alfred Douglas Dbuglas-Hamilton. thirteenth Duke of Hamilton, and tenth Duke of Brandon, was born in 1862. His early vears were spent in the Royal Navy. He was hereditary keeper of Holvrood Palace. Besides the two dukedoms he held the titles of Earl of Angus, Baron Hamilton, Earl of Arran, Marquess of Hamilton. Marquess of Douglas, Marquess of Clydesdale, Baron of Polmont, Machanshirc Innerdale, Baron of Abernathy and Jedburgh Forest. Baron Dutton, and Duke of Chatelherault (France). His heir, the Marquess of Clydesdale, is popularly known as "the boxing Marquis,” and was a member of the first British party to fly over Everest.
SELMA LAGERLOF. ' * LONDON. March 16. The death has occurred of Selma Lagerlof, the Swedish novelist, author of "Gorta Berling,” at the age of 82.
