Mi* and Mrs Fred. A. Hbpkins, of Timaru, and formerly of Ashburton, were visitors hero to-day.
The Afayor (Dv. c G. I. Alilley), who has been on annual leave for the last two weeks i returned to Ashburton this afternoon. • i
Mr F. AA\ Brassell, of Grey mouth, has arrived in Ashburton to take up the position of overseer of the line staff of the Ashburton Post Office.
A Nelson -Press Association message states that the death has occurred of Airs AA’ashbouvn, wife of Dr. H. E. A. AVashbourn, and mother of LieutenantCommander AVashbourn, D. 5.0., of H.M.S. Achilles.
Air T. Miller represented tlie Ashburton Silver Band at a complimentary social tendered to the Timaru Alunicipal Band on Saturday evening, and, on behalf of the Ashburton Band, extended congratulations on the successes of the Timaru Band at the recent Dominion contest. *
Cabled advice was received by the chairman of the Ashburton Hospital Board (Mr W. G. Gallagher) this morning, that Dr. A. J. Mason (Medical Superintendent of the Public Hospital), who has been in London for the last .year, hopes to resume duty at Ashburton on June 1, which is the end of his period of leave. His resumption of duty hefi’e depends, however, on his releaso from duty with the British Army medical authorities.
