RAID STARTS BIG FIRES. 16th CENTURY CLOISTERS BURNING. ~ (Received This Day, 7.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 2. The Paris correspondent; of the United Press says- that Warsaw has radioed that part of Poland’s holy city, Czestochowa, is in flames after ail earial bombardment. The 16th century cloisters .are burning. DIRAMATIC INTERJECTION. POLISH WIRELESS PROGRAMME. (Received This Day 3 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, September 3. The Polish wireless stations interrupted their programmes at 1 p.m. with the dramatic interjection: “Germany— Britain has declared war on you.” Then the British and Polish Anthems were played. THE FIRST CASUALTIES. SOLDIERS REACH HOSPITAL. MANY CIVILIANS KILLED. LONDON, September 1. Reports received in Paris state that German warplanes bombed Warsaw and six other Polish towns early this morning. Many civilians were killed and injured. Additional towns include Vilna, Grodno, Brzesc, and Lodz. Bombs destroyed the station and other buildings at Tczew. Before the air attack, the Germans crossed the frontier at four points, including Dzialdowo. Bombers raided the station and the tunnel on the Cracrow-Warsaw line. It is stated in Warsaw that the offensive is directed at Dzestochowa. A message from Warsaw says that the Foreign Office confirms the bombing of Gleiwitz. An ambulance arrived with wounded soldiers for the emergency hospital.
