THE' DOMINION TOURNAMENT. CANTERBURY BEATS ASHBURTON BLENHEIM, August 31. Section play in the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament concluded this afternoon with Eastern and Canterbury emerging as 1 winners of their respective sections. They will meet in the final for the K Cup and the championship on Saturday. Eastern gave another meritorious performance. Not* only is it the only team to win all five matches, but it also achieved the distinction of not having a goal scored against it while scoring 40. The next best performance to that of Eastern in section B was by Wellington with four wins and a Joss. Jn section A, Canterbury, while unbeaten, drew in two matches. To-day it secured the right to play in the final by outclassing Ashburton by 5 2. Ashburton, which was previously level with Canterbury, will play Feilding tomorrow to decide which team will meet Wellington for the Holden Cup. Marlborough A, which was on terms with

Feilding, failed again to-day, losing to Feilding by a decisive margin. The weather, which had been favourable, changed suddenly, rain falling for the section B< matches. Ashburton and Canterbury played tiie final game of A section to-day. The Ashburton team was: U. Wilson, U. Watson, E. Jary, W. Lowe, R. Donaldson, N. Loach, F. Gudsell, P. Brand, J. Hawke, E. Anderson and J. Lowe. From the bully Ashburton attacked, but Canterbury cleared well and passed into Ashburton twenty-five, Canterbury conceding a corner. Canterbury opened the score.—One nil. From the bully Ashburton carried the ball up-field, but were penalised for offside play. Canterbury came down with a good passing rush, but the goalie cleared well. Canterbury was still pressing hard but good work by the backs relieved the situation. Play was carried to the Canterbury twenty-five. Up-and-down play resulted, but Ashburton was having the best of the game and secured a penalty corner, but a twenty-five resulted. Canterbury again pressed hard, resulting in the second goal being scored from a bully. Ashburton pressed hard and good work by F. Gudsell carried the ball into the Canterbury circle, but E. Anderson failed to score. Canterbury came away again and scored their third goal from a bully. Ashburton attacked and a good shot by E. Anderson resulted in Ashburton’s first score. At half-time the score was: Canterbury 3 Ashburton ... I From the bully-off Ashburton attacked strongly and were awarded a penalty corner, Canterbury clearing. Ashburton came away again, when a second corner resulted, being well cleared again by the goalkeeper. Canterbury came away again and pressed hard, and from good play by the right wing shot their fourth goal. Canterbury again got possession from the bully but the Ashburton backs failed to connect, which allowed Canterbury to score their fifth goal. Much up-and-down play followed, Ashburton pressing on several occasions. J. Hawke then secured Ashburton’s second goal. Ashburton came away again and got into Canterbury’s circle, but F. Gudsell. was penalised for a knock-on. Still pressing hard, J. Hawke was unfortunate in not netting, but a corner resulted. Ashburton, still holding on, was unable to add to the scoi'e.
