LINER IN GALE.
HOVE-TO FOR TWELVE HOURS.
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, July 4,
Although a record low barometer reading of 28.718 in. was recorded at Auckland on Monday afternoon, there was little severity in to-day’s weather. After heavy fain in the early morning, conditions during thq day were mild, with several hours’ sunshine, and occasional showers. Heavy rain, with hail and thunder and lightning, occurred this evening, and the remainder of the night was showery. v The barometer continued its steady rise from Monday’s low reading until late this 'morning, when it steadied at 29.38 in. Pressure again began to fall late to-night. Reports from shipping off the New Zealand coast indicate that severe conditions are ruling. The Federal Line’s motor-ship Sussex (11,000 tons gross), en rout© from Liverpool to Auckland, via Panama, advised that she had been hove-to for 12 hours in exceedingly had weather. Her arrival time is uncertain. The Sussex is bringing a very heavy cargo.
