COUNTRY EDUCATION.
VALUABLE WORK FOR WOMEN CURRENT YEAR’S ACTIVITIES Women of the Ashburton County who benefited from the work of the Association of Country Education last year are looking forward to another season’s activities, and most of the Women’s institutes and Divisions of the Farmers’ Union have made arrangements for the continuation of the service. Last year’s classes and lectures by Miss R'. Robins (resident tutor) were instrumental in giving a large number of women a comprehensive course of home science training, and that the activities of the Association in the County were a. success may be judged from the fact that several districts that did not. have the service in 1938, have applied for classes or lectures this year. During the first few weeks attention will be given to group demonstrations. No demonstrations on bottling of fruits and vegetables are being given in the regular April-November meetings, and instead three special combined meetings will be held, arrangements being made by members of the Advisory Committee in conjunction with group conveners of the Womens Institutes. The first meeting will be held at Rakaia on Monday, thd second at Hinds on Thursday, and the third in Ashburton next Friday. Dressmaking classes have been arranged for Rakaia, Tinwald, Ealing, Rokeby, Hampstead, while nutrition classes will be conducted at Ashburton and Methven. The programme of lectures' has been drawn up'' and these will commence on April 1.
