FAIR CONDITIONS TO-DAY. Although the sky was overcast for the greater part of this morning, conditions improved later and - the suri made its appearance. There was a light wind from the south-west. The maximum temperature yesterday was 70.5 degrees and the minimum last night 52.6. Th© barometer stood at 30.25 inches this morning. THE MONTH AT RUAPUNA The weather at Ruapuna. during February was abnormally dry. Except for seven points, rain fell on only one occasion, that being on February 6, when there were 157 points. The sun shone on every day except one. The total of 164 points of rain for the month is very much less than usual, the average for February being 352 points. With siich a low rainfall, after the 40 points which fell in January, conditions have become seriously dry. Pastures have completely shrivelled, and early turnip crops have wasted away. Turnips sown later would come away and provide a. small amount of winter feed, if rain fell, although shrikes are very patchy. With the prospective total failure of turnip crops, the outlook for carrying stock through the winter is very serious. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) - WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— Pressui*e has risen further over New Zealand and settled conditions still prevail. Tjie forecast tor the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Light to moderate winds between north-easterly and south-easterly predominating considerably, some low cloud and possibly morning fogs but weather otherwise fine and mild to warm.
