FINED FIVE POUNDS.

DRUNK AND DISORDERLY CHARGE. INCIDENT AT BOXING MATCH. “We cannot allow this sort of thing to take place in Ashburton,” said Messrs A. H. Fenn and W. G. Gallagher, J.P’s., when they imposed a fine of £5 on Thomas Stanley White, aged 22, of Ashburton, who was charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning with being drunk and disorderly at tine Radiant Hall during the boxing contest last night. A prohibition order under the Licensing Act was issued against defendant for 12 months. 'Sergeant J. F. Cleary said that defendant arrived at the hall during the last round and was in an advanced state of intoxication. He pushed his way through the crowd and approached Constable Round, to wiiom he spoke. He then lifted his foot and .rubbed it against the Constable’s leg “in no affectionate manner.” The Constable asked him to desist and told him to go home. Defendant continued making a nuisance of himself and ignored further warnings of the Constable, who then made to put him out. Another constable came up, hut the lefforts of both were resisted forcibly, defendant attempting to strike one. He fought all the way out and was taken to the police station. “It is a shame to see such a’ young man making a list: of convictions, ’ said the bench when imposing the fine.
