FINE AND SETTLED CONDI- , TIONS. The weather in Ashburton to-day was fine and settled, the mild conditions were welcome after the cold spell during the last few days. The thermometer reading rose no higher than 57.1 degrees yesterday, while the minimum temperature last night was 43.6 degrees. The barometer stood at 29.70 inches this morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.; WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: An anticyclone is centred to the north-east of the Dominion. Conditions are disturbed in the Tasman Sea area and pressure is relatively low over South-eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:
Light to moderate north-easterly winds prevailing. Weather fair and mild. Seas slight to moderate.
