A vote of sympathy with Mr P. Choak in his ilhiess was passed at a meeting of the Citizens’ Committee of the Ashburton Silver Band last evening.
Mr W. G. Bruce, of Onmaru, son of Mr Murdoch Bruce, Ashburton is spending a few days of his annual leave in Ashburton, before travelling north.
Mr L. C. Nash has been elected president and Mr L. W. Christmas vicepresident of the Ashburton Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants. The election was made at the annual meeting yesterday.
Mr and Mrs T. Gosling, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs C. Brand. Wakanui, left to-day to join the “Arawa” at Wellington on their return to England. Mr and Mrs Gosling have been in New Zealand for 12 months.
Mr G. H. Nicoll is representing the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society at the South Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association’s annual conference at Dunedin to-day and to-mor-row. Mr Ri. J. Bruce, of Ashburton, is acting as delegate for the North Canterbury Society.
Mr C. J. Bax, Who has been an active member of the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade fop* six years, and who will leave on Saturday to take the position of supervisor of the Christchurch City Council’s testing station, was entertained by members of the Brigade to a farewell social. The interest that Mr Bax has taken in the affairs of the Brigade was referred to by 'Mir H. Hefford (Superintendent), who on behalf of the members made him a presentation of two armchairs.
