FLOWER SHOW
ASHBURTON EAST SCHOOL. FINE DISPLAY OF BLOOMS. OVER 200 ENTRIES RECEIVED. The Ashburton East School held its first spring flower show to-day, and a total of over 200 entries were received for all classes. The display of spring flowers was outstanding, and the special exhibitions of blooms by the Rev. W. W. Avery and Mr A. Clarke attracted much attention. The winner of Mr C. Bowman’s Cup for the most points in the cut flowers section was Mr D, Ede, whose blooms were of a very high standard Mr Porter was the runner-up in this section. In the decorative section Mrs Holland gained first place with 10 points, winning Mr J. K. Mather’s trophy. The judges were: Cut flowers, the Rev. W. W. Avery; decorative, Mrs A. Nicholson and Mrs S. Keely; pot plants and juvenile flower section, Mr and Mrs A. Clarke; home industries, Miss I>. 'L. Vesty. Excellent weather was enjoyed for the show, and during the afternoon many people visited the school. A mass drill display was given by pupils of thd third, fourth, fifth and sixth standards. Other attractions included side-shows and a treasure-hunt. The prize-winners are : Cut Flowers. Narcissi (three varieties): Mr D. Ede 1, Mr Porter 2, Naricssi (six varieties): Mr D‘.
