A conference of mining unions decided to endeavour to induce maritime workers to declare black 100,000 tons of coal which is being shipped to Australia. An unsuccessful attempt wias made to blow up a bridge on a private railway line leading to the Rhondda colliery in the Newcastle district. Five charges wore placed in the wooden supports and exploded just after a coal train had crossed the bridge, but the structure remained intact.
