THE HUNT CLUB
MEET AT WAKANUI. NO KILLS ON SATURDAY. Although no kills were effected, the Ashburton branch of the Christchurch Hunt Club enjoyed the outing for iis meet at Wakanui on Saturday. The jumping of the horses was an improvement on that ot the opening hunt, but many stiff fences were encountered and one long run in particular sorted out the good horses, leaving behind only five close up with ihe pack when the hare was lost. The hounds, were east off on the farm of Mr J. W. Butterick, and the scent, which was patchy early in the afternoon, led across the property of Messrs I\ Hyland and C. Crawford. About three hares were seen, one being partioulatly elusive. It evaded the hounds on three occasions, the first being a Her a long run. All the hares sought cover in gorse. McGuinness on Kerry, A. S. Ellis on Tom Oat, J. Lewis on Trigg H. McElrea on Zala, K. Phelan on Ladd}', J. Butterick on Bantasker, R. Hefford, on A 1 Capone, Lochhead on Tom Thumb, G. Stayt on Surefoot, A. Clark on Nobby, G. Hoatten on Peter, H. White on Real McKay, A. Wilson on Mae West, Eelby Lundy on Peter, K. Butterick on Nancy Lee, R. Butterick on Ruffle Toppin, E.
