SCHOOLS CLOSED IN EPIDEMIC. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 21. The following statement about the University entrance examination is made by the University of New Zealand: —“In view of the broken school year, due to the infantile paralysis epidemic, the University 'has decided that some relief should be given to the candidates concerned. The committee dealing with this question agreed that additional marks should be awarded, to candidates from the schools concerned, the additional marks varying with the length of the period during which the schools were closed. As a further relief, the committee also agreed to relax somewhat the conditions that have previously obtained in regard to cases given special consideration by the committee.

“The committee feels that these methods have removed as far as possible any hardship arising from the exceptional conditions of the school year.”
