STEADY INCREASE.

WELLINGTON CRIMINAL CASES. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 21. More than 7000 criminal cases were dealt with by Magistrates and Justices of the Peace at Wellington last year. The Court statistics show that *7498 criminal cases came on for hearing, and if 702 heard in the Children’s Court are taken into account the total reaches 8200.

The figures for each successive quarter are: Males, 1270, 1482, 1893, 2281; females, 119, 156, 147, 150.

The Children’s Court figures are: — Males, 140, 200, 215, 101; females, 14, 12, 9, 11. Fees and fines for the year totalled £12,667 10s. Civil complaints for each successive quarter were 1516, 1735, 1386, 1379, and the total amounts sued for were £30,524, £28,498 14s 9d, £17,482 13s 9d, and £21,055 Is.
