WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
THE ALLENTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Allenton Women’s Institute was held on Saturday afternoon, when Mrs G. Harris presided over a good attendance. Mrs H. J. Constable (voluntary organiser) was present. It was decided, to purchase a new cupboard for the library; to make a donation to tlie school prize fund; and that the picnic be held at the Tinwald Domain in January. Goods were sold for the Returned Soldiers and the Institute for the Blind. Mrs G. Pike gave a demonstration and attractive display of novelties suitable for Christmas gifts. She received a hearty vote of thanks. 'Competitions resulted —Soft toys: Mrs W. Collins, first equal for two entries, Mrs J. A, Walker 2, Mrs F. Taylor and Mrs Walker third equal. Date Scones: Miss McDowell 1, Mrs H. Greayes 2, Mrs W. Collins 3. Premier Bloom: Mrs K. S. McEachen 1, Mrs J. A. Walker 2, Mrs W. Collins 3. Decorated Bowl of Golden and Blue Flowers: Mrs J. McElhin.ney 1, Miss McDowell 2, Mrs H. Greaves and Mrs A. McKay (equal) 3., Afternoon tea. was served, the hostesses being Mesdames G. Harris, G. Hosken, T. Greer, J. Osborne, T. Andersen and K. S. McEachen.
