NEW BRIDGE OPENED.

ACROSS SAN FRANCISCO BAY. (United Press Association —Copyright.) SAN FRANCISCO, November 13. The bridge across San Francisco Bay, the longest in the world over navigable .waters, which links San Francisco and Oakland, was opened amid scenes of great enthusiasm. It is estimated that 125,000 people attended the opening. The Governor or California (Mr Merriam), using an acetylene torch, cut through a gold chain while 14 warships fired their Mr Roosevel.t, at Washington, pressed a button illuminating green lights, which were the signal foi ca-is to start at the rate of 200 a minute. The first car carried Mr H. C. Hoover and Mr Merriam. The bridge took three vears to construct and 24 lives were lost in building the six-lane upper deck The lower deck will be completed in 1938, and will carry trucks and railway lines. The bridge cost 77,000,000 dollars.
