LONDON LORD MAYOR’S SHOW
MECHANICAL WARi IN STRUMENTS (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 9. The Lord Mayor’s Show, which gives a traditional opportunity for London trades and industries to stage elaborate displays, was to-day turned into a purely official function, devoted entirely to armed forces. It was a colourful pageant of the British Army and Navy throughout the centuries, succeeded by impressive displays of present-day services. The spectators seemed awed by the mechanical grimness of modern warfare. One mighty tank, a terrifying monster of steel, tore up the bitumen road as it lumbered along. Though the object of the show was undoubtedly to focus attention on the Government’s defence programme, a large section of the spectators appeared to find it a powerful propaganda for peace.
