ARMISTICE DAY.

18TH ANNIVERSARY TO-MORROW. THE TWO MINUTES’ SILENCE. To mark the Armistice which brought the Great War to a conclusion, and. was signed on November 11, 1918, eighteen years ago to-morrow, a silence of two minutes will he observed to-morrow. A period of silence is observed at 11 a.m. on November 11 each year as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the war and as a mark of gratitude for the cessation of hostilities. Traffic and work will stop when the hour strikes and the silent observance of this anniversary will conclude at 11.2 o’clock.

The approach of the silence will be' marked in Ashburton by the ringing of the bells of St. Stephen’s Church, which will start' to toll at 10.55 and cease at 11 o’clock. The end of the silence will be marked by a peal from the bells.
