WRESTLING.

TURK IS STILL KING. A DECISION REVERSED. The New York State Athletic Commissioner has asserted his authority and overruled a decision made by referee Frank Simborn, giving Dave Levin, of New York, the world heavyweight wrestling title after the official had disqualified Ali Baba, recognised in the majority of States as king pm of the pachyderms, in a bout held at Newark. “No wrestling champions are recognised in New Jersey and, all bouts are regarded as exhibitions, so I was forced to reverse referee Simborn’s decision, ’ Commissioner Kreenen said recently. “Ali Baba or ainv other wrestler claiming to hold a championship could not lose his title in this match despite the fact that he lost the match. “We have no working agreement with, any other wrestling commission, recognise no champions. “Consequently, all promoters were instructed several years ago not to advertise championship bouts even

though a. wrestler recognised by some commissions was due to appear on their cards.

“I am standing firmly behind the rules I made when I became commissioner till the time when I decide to recognise wrestling champions,” he concluded. The commissioner is to be commended for his reversal of Simborn’s decision (comments an American critic). No title has changed hands in New Jersey since Kreenen took office.
